Author Guidelines
General Information
NG Civil Engineering (NGCE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality research articles, review articles, short communications, technical notes, and case studies in all areas of civil engineering and related interdisciplinary domains. The journal provides a scholarly platform for researchers, academicians, engineers, consultants, practitioners, and policymakers to share original findings, technical innovations, analytical approaches, and practical insights relevant to civil infrastructure and the built environment.
Submission Process
Authors must submit their manuscripts through the journal’s online submission system.
Files to be Submitted
Authors are required to submit two separate files at the time of submission:
File 1: Title Page
This file should include:
- full title of the manuscript
- running title, if applicable
- full names of all authors
- complete institutional affiliations
- corresponding author details
- email addresses of all authors
- ORCID iDs, where available
- acknowledgments, funding information, and conflict of interest statement, if applicable
File 2: Main Manuscript (Blinded File)
This file should contain the complete manuscript text without any author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or identifying information. It should include:
- title
- abstract
- keywords
- highlights
- main text
- references
- tables and figures with captions
The main manuscript file must be prepared carefully to support the double-blind peer review process.
Online Submission
The corresponding author should ensure that all listed authors have read and approved the manuscript and agree to its submission to NG Civil Engineering.
Manuscript Preparation
Authors must prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the journal template and ensure that all required sections are included and properly formatted before submission.
Cover Letter
A cover letter should be submitted along with the manuscript, briefly explaining the significance of the work, its originality, and its relevance to the scope of NG Civil Engineering.
Manuscript Structure
Title Page
The title page should include:
- title of the manuscript
- full names of all authors
- affiliations of all authors
- corresponding author details
- email addresses
- ORCID iDs, where available
Main Manuscript
The blinded manuscript should be arranged in the following order:
Title
The title should be concise, specific, and informative.
Abstract
Provide a clear and concise summary of the study in not more than 250 words. The abstract should briefly present:
- the background or context of the study
- the objective(s) of the work
- the methods used
- the principal findings
- the major conclusion or implication
Keywords
Provide 4 to 6 keywords that accurately reflect the subject, methods, and major themes of the manuscript.
Article Highlights
Provide 3 to 5 brief highlights summarizing the major findings, innovations, or contributions of the study.
Introduction
The introduction should:
- present the background and rationale of the study
- explain the research problem or engineering context
- review relevant literature
- identify the knowledge gap or technical need
- clearly state the objectives or hypotheses of the study
Materials and Methods / Methodology
This section should provide sufficient detail to allow understanding and reproducibility of the work. Authors should clearly describe:
- study area, experimental setup, or system under investigation
- materials, datasets, software, standards, models, and instruments used
- design procedures, analytical methods, or computational methods
- statistical methods, validation procedures, and assumptions where relevant
Where applicable, authors should provide sufficient information regarding data sources, simulation settings, and model parameters.
Results
Present the findings in a clear, logical, and concise manner. Results may be supported by tables, figures, graphs, and subheadings where necessary. Avoid repeating the same data extensively in both text and tables or figures.
Discussion
Interpret the results in relation to previous studies, engineering practice, and the objectives of the work. The discussion should explain the significance of the findings, their practical or theoretical implications, limitations of the study, and possible directions for future research.
Conclusions
Summarize the principal findings and their significance in a concise manner. Conclusions should directly arise from the presented results and should not merely repeat the abstract.
Author Contributions
Authors should clearly specify the contribution of each author to the manuscript. Suitable contribution categories may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, formal analysis, data curation, writing—original draft preparation, writing—review and editing, supervision, and funding acquisition.
Funding
All sources of financial support should be clearly acknowledged, including grant numbers where applicable. If there was no external funding, authors should state:
“The authors received no external funding for this work.”
Institutional Review Board / Ethical Approval
If the study involves human participants, human data, or animals, authors must provide details of ethical approval obtained from the appropriate institutional or regulatory body.
Informed Consent Statement
For studies involving human participants, authors should confirm that informed consent was obtained from participants wherever applicable.
Data Availability Statement
Authors are encouraged to provide a statement regarding the availability of the data supporting the results of the study. Where possible, data, code, and supplementary materials should be deposited in a suitable public repository or made available upon reasonable request.
Acknowledgments
Authors may acknowledge technical assistance, institutional support, field support, language editing, or other contributions that do not meet the criteria for authorship.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors must declare any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could be viewed as influencing the work. If there are no conflicts of interest, authors should state:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
References
References must be prepared in APA style. Authors are responsible for ensuring that:
- all references cited in the text appear in the reference list
- all references in the reference list are cited in the text
- bibliographic details are complete and accurate
- DOI links are included where available
Formatting and Style
- Font and Size: Times New Roman, 12-point
- Line Spacing: Double-spaced throughout the manuscript
- Margins: 1 inch on all sides
