Author Guidelines

General Information

JSAS is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing high-quality research articles, reviews, and short communications across sustainable agriculture and allied fields. We provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share findings, innovations, and insights that improve resilient agri-food systems.

Submission Process

  1. Online Submission: Submit via the journal’s submission system (register/login required). Ensure all authors have approved the submission.

  2. Manuscript Preparation: Follow the JSAS template; include every section listed below. 

  3. Cover Letter: Briefly explain novelty, significance, and fit to JSAS.

Manuscript Structure

  1. Title Page

    • Title (concise, informative)

    • Authors’ full names, affiliations, and contact details

    • Corresponding author email and ORCID iD (recommended) 

  2. Abstract (≤ 250 words)
    Summarize context, objectives, methods, main findings, and implications; add 3–6 keywords

  3. Article Highlights
    3–5 bullet points capturing key contributions. 

  4. Introduction
    Background, objectives, and brief literature context.

  5. Materials and Methods
    Sufficient detail for reproduction; report approvals for studies with humans/animals; make data, code, and protocols publicly available where possible.

  6. Results
    Clear presentation, with tables/figures near first mention.

  7. Discussion
    Interpretation, implications, and limitations vs. prior work.

  8. Conclusions
    Brief, evidence-based takeaways. 

  9. Author Contributions
    Use contribution statements (e.g., Conceptualization; Methodology; Writing—original draft; Writing—review & editing). 

  10. Funding (grant numbers, if any) 

  11. Informed Consent Statement (if applicable) 

  12. Acknowledgments 

  13. Conflicts of Interest (declare or state none) 

  14. ReferencesAPA style (ensure accuracy and completeness). 

Formatting & Style

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point

  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout

  • Margins: 1-inch on all sides

  • Headings: Use styles defined in the template

  • Figures & Tables: High-resolution, clearly labeled; place near first mention in text 

Submission Checklist

  • All authors have read and approved the submission

  • Manuscript is original and not under consideration elsewhere

  • Paper follows the JSAS template and includes all sections

  • Data/code/protocols are available or statements provided

  • Permissions secured for any third-party material 

Peer Review Policy

JSAS follows a double-blind peer review process: author and reviewer identities remain confidential. At least two expert reviewers assess quality, methods, significance, and clarity. Decisions: Accept, Minor revision, Major revision, or Reject. Average time to first decision ~ 15 days (varies with revisions). Reviewer confidentiality and conflict-of-interest standards apply. 

Plagiarism Policy

JSAS allows a maximum similarity of 10% (excluding references) for consideration. All submissions are screened with tools such as Turnitin/iThenticate. Manuscripts exceeding the threshold will be returned for revision; confirmed plagiarism in published work may lead to retraction after investigation.

  • Open Access: All JSAS articles are freely accessible on publication.

  • Copyright: Authors retain copyright.

  • License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).

    • Sharing and adaptation permitted with attribution

    • Third-party materials excluded unless permissions obtained.
