JSAS is a peer-reviewed open-access journal advancing sustainable agriculture and allied disciplines. We publish research, reviews, and practice-oriented work on agroecology, climate-smart farming, extension, mechanization, livestock, fisheries, policy, and data-driven solutions that improve resilience, equity, and food system sustainability.

Aims & Scope

JSAS publishes high-quality scholarship that enhances the sustainability, resilience, and equity of agri-food systems. We welcome work that is rigorous, reproducible, and useful to researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

Core areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Sustainable crop and soil management; conservation agriculture; agroecology

  • Climate-smart agriculture; carbon and water management; socio-hydrology

  • Horticulture, agroforestry, and biodiversity conservation

  • Farm mechanization; precision and digital agriculture; ICTs in extension

  • Agricultural extension, communication, and rural sociology; gender and inclusion

  • Livestock, fisheries, and veterinary public health with sustainability focus

Article types: Research Articles, Review Articles, Short Communications and Case Studies.

Researchers, extension professionals, development practitioners, educators, policymakers, and graduate students in agriculture and allied sciences.

Editorial & Review Policies

Peer Review Process

  • Initial screening by the Editorial Office for scope, originality, and basic compliance.

  • Double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers.

  • Editorial decision (accept / minor revision / major revision / reject) based on reviewer feedback and editor’s assessment.

  • Average timelines: Initial decision in [X] weeks; accepted articles published online first within [Y] weeks after final acceptance.

  • Conflicts of interest must be declared by authors, reviewers, and editors prior to review.

Publication Ethics

JSAS adheres to best practices recommended by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
Author responsibilities include:

  • Submitting only original work not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Accurate citation of sources, data, code, and prior publications (including preprints).

  • Disclosing funding, data availability, and relevant competing interests.

  • Obtaining ethical approval for studies involving humans/animals and informed consent where applicable.

Editorial responsibilities include: fair evaluation, confidentiality, timely communication, and action on ethical concerns (plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate publication, image manipulation, citation manipulation).

Plagiarism & Originality

All submissions undergo similarity checks using [Similarity tool name]. Manuscripts exceeding journal thresholds or showing unethical overlap may be rejected or retracted.

Open Access, Copyright, and Licensing

  • Open Access Policy: All JSAS articles are freely available upon publication; no subscription paywalls.

  • Copyright: Authors retain copyright.

  • License: Articles are published under Creative Commons [CC BY 4.0] unless stated otherwise.

  • Re-use: Share, adapt, and build upon the work with attribution; note third-party material may require permission.

Fees & Waivers

  • Article Processing Charge (APC): US$ 150 per accepted article.

  • Submission Fee: Nil.

  • Waivers/Discounts: Available for students, early-career researchers, and authors from low income countries upon request at submission.

  • No charges for editorially invited pieces.

  • Formatting: Follow JSAS Author Guidelines.

  • Language: English; clear, concise, and technically accurate.

  • Reporting standards: Use relevant checklists (e.g., PRISMA for reviews, ARRIVE for animal studies).

  • Ethics & consent: Upload approvals and consent forms as required.

  • Preprints: Allowed; please declare server and DOI at submission.

  • ORCID: Corresponding author (and ideally all authors) should provide ORCID iDs.
