Author Guidelines
General Information
Environment and Energy Informatics is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality original research articles, review articles, short communications, and case-based scholarly contributions in the interdisciplinary fields of environment, energy, and informatics. The journal aims to provide a rigorous platform for researchers, academicians, practitioners, engineers, analysts, and policymakers to share innovative findings, computational approaches, and evidence-based insights relevant to sustainable environmental and energy systems.
Submission Files Required for Environment and Energy Informatics
To support a fair and efficient double-blind peer review process, Environment and Energy Informatics requires authors to submit two separate Word files at the time of manuscript submission.
1. Anonymous Manuscript File
This file will be sent for peer review. It must be fully anonymized and must not contain any author-identifying information.
The Anonymous Manuscript File must include:
- Title of the manuscript
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Article highlights, where applicable
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods / Methodology
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- Tables
- Figures with captions
- References
- Appendices or supplementary text, where applicable
Authors must ensure that the manuscript is carefully anonymized before submission. Manuscripts containing identifying information may be returned for correction before peer review.
2. Title Page / Author Details File
This file is for editorial use only and will not be shared with reviewers.
The Title Page / Author Details File must include:
- Full title of the manuscript
- Full names of all authors
- Full institutional affiliations of all authors
- Email addresses of all authors
- ORCID iDs of all authors, where available
- Name, affiliation, and email address of the corresponding author
- Author contribution statement
- Conflict of interest declaration
- Acknowledgements
- Data Availability Statement
- AI Use Disclosure Statement
- Funding statement
- Ethical approval statement, where applicable
- Consent to participate / consent for publication, where applicable
Reference and Citation Style
Environment and Energy Informatics follows the American Psychological Association (APA) style for both in-text citations and the reference list.
Authors must ensure that:
- in-text citations and references are prepared in APA style;
- all references cited in the text are included in the reference list;
- all references in the reference list are cited in the text;
- DOIs are provided wherever available; and
- reference formatting is consistent throughout the manuscript.
Important Style Instruction
The expression “et al.” must not be italicized in in-text citations or elsewhere in the manuscript.
Correct:
(Nanda et al., 2024)
Das et al. (2023) reported that...
That instruction is useful and should stay. Many authors get it wrong.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures must be presented clearly, numbered consecutively, and cited in the text in the order in which they appear.
Numbering of Tables
Tables must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals: Table 1, Table 2, Table 3, and so on.
The table number must be followed by a period and a concise title.
Correct format:
Table 1. Characteristics of the simulation dataset
Table 2. Comparative performance of forecasting models
The table title must be placed above the table.
Each table should have a clear and self-explanatory title. If abbreviations, symbols, or notes are used, these should be explained below the table as table notes.
Tables should not duplicate information already fully described in the text or shown in figures.
Numbering of Figures
Figures must also be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals: Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, and so on.
The figure number must be followed by a period and a concise caption.
Correct format:
Figure 1. Workflow of the proposed analytical framework
Figure 2. Spatial distribution of environmental risk zones
The figure caption must be placed below the figure.
Each figure must have a clear and informative caption so that it can be understood independently of the main text as far as possible.
Figures should be cited in the text in numerical order.
Placement and Citation in Text
Every table and figure must be referred to in the main text.
Authors should cite them as Table 1, Figure 1, and so on.
Tables and figures should appear as close as possible to their first citation in the manuscript.
Submission Checklist
Before submission, authors should ensure that:
- all authors have read and approved the submission;
- the manuscript is original and is not under consideration elsewhere;
- all necessary sections are included and the journal format has been followed;
- the manuscript has been anonymized correctly for double-blind review;
- all required declarations are included in the title page file;
- data, code, models, and supplementary materials are transparently described through a Data Availability Statement;
- necessary permissions have been obtained for third-party material; and
- the manuscript has been checked for language quality, citation accuracy, and originality.
This is one place where the original text needed correction: do not write “ensure all data, code, and protocols are publicly available” as an absolute rule unless you are truly enforcing mandatory open-data policy. That wording creates unnecessary problems. A Data Availability Statement is the better standard.
